NHT 033049 – Growing Broombush on Saline Land

Funding – Natural Heritage Trust Project 033049

Project Activity

The Natural Heritage Trust has provided funding of $133,200 to the Moore Catchment Council for its current project of “Growing Broombush on Saline Land”.

The aim of the project is to monitor and evaluate different cultivars of Broombush Melaleuca uncinata on marginally saline soils.

The project will be based in the Northern Agricultural Catchment from Yuna to Gingin and Victoria Plains/Calingiri to Mullewa.

The evaluation process will consist of three segments:

  1. Establishment Techniques
  2. Growth and
  3. Recovery from Harvest.

The outcome of this project is to assess whether growing Broombush could be incorporated into normal farming operations as a commercially viable venture.
